ActiveX Host Integration with PASSPORT WEB TO HOST®

Browser-Based Client Can Be Used for Host Integration with 3270, 5250 and UNIX Applications

ActiveX Host Integration with PASSPORT WEB TO HOST: Free Trial

activex integrationAs an ActiveX client with robust application programming interfaces, including an advanced Object API, PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® provides an ideal platform for client-based ActiveX host integration projects. Using Microsoft® Internet Explorer® as a framework for managing end user applications, PASSPORT WEB TO HOST can deliver streamlined access to 3270, 5250 or UNIX applications by way of advanced scripting and single sign-on methods.

The PASSPORT Object Toolkit eases development efforts with sample source code, documentation and more and is available free of charge to customers who license at least 500 units of PASSPORT via an annual subscription license.

Any ActiveX host integration project that requires TN3270, TN5250, VT100, VT220, VT420, SCO ANSI or Wyse 60 terminal emulation can incorporate the use of PASSPORT WEB TO HOST for these important connectivity and integration services. The browser-based client can be used to replace older Windows terminal emulation and the use of Windows icons to launch sessions.

For more extensive client-based integration projects or for .NET applications that are better published from a server platform, Zephyr offers the PASSPORT Host Integration Objects solution.

With PASSPORT WEB TO HOST, you can:

  • Provide access to a host application directly from a menu or HTML link within the framework of Internet Explorer

  • Make use of an active host session or launch a host session in the event an active session isn't available

  • Incorporate the use of single sign-on services prior to opening any host application

  • Automatically navigate the user through a host session manager menu, ultimately reaching the desired 3270, 5250 or UNIX application

  • Read and write information to and from the active session (screen scraping)

  • Copy and paste data between applications

  • Create scripts to streamline the navigation of host applications

  • Give remote users an easy way to reach host applications

There are many benefits of this low cost, low risk approach to legacy integration. One of them is time to market. In our experience, even the most complex integration projects can generally be completed in weeks, even days, depending on the requirements.

Given that the use of 3270, 5250 and UNIX applications are not diminishing, the PASSPORT ActiveX client and .NET server solutions are commonly used to displace incumbent solutions from Attachmate® , IBM® , NetManage® and WRQ®.

Over the past few years, Zephyr has participated in many client and server-based integration projects where PASSPORT has been used for host integration. In fact, the large majority of our customers require some form of screen-based host integration, and many of the uses can be quite advanced.
