AS/400 Printing with PASSPORT
Using PASSPORT for AS/400 Printing with TN5250E
PASSPORT AS/400 Printing Trial Download
PASSPORT provides high quality, reliable AS/400 printing from Windows Vista® desktops.
PASSPORT AS/400 printing is extremely cost effective. Zephyr provides a subscription based licensing program that reduces your acquisition cost and maintenance cost significantly. This makes upgrading from another TN5250E client a very attractive proposition.
As one of the market's very first IP-based connectivity solutions, the mature, feature-rich package is an ideal replacement for older desktop-based emulators, including Attachmate® EXTRA!®, IBM Personal Communications, NetManage® Rumba® and WRQ® Reflection®. With its competitive pricing and licensing options, you can save 50% to 75% on the amount of money you would normally spend for host access.
AS/400 Printing Deployment
There are actually two versions of PASSPORT that can be used for AS/400 printing. Each product uses a different method of deployment.
PASSPORT PC TO HOST® provides desktop-based AS/400 printing. This product is similar to other desktop Windows programs. PASSPORT is installed with a Windows setup program. It can also be deployed using SMS, MSI or deployed from a Citrix terminal server.
PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® provides web-based AS/400 printing deployed from a web server. The TN5250E client is installed on a web server and provides an administrator program for centralized configuration and administration. All software and configuration files reside on the web server. When the TN5250E client is run, an ActiveX applet is downloaded from the web server to the client desktop and run inside of Internet Explorer. The ActiveX component is only downloaded the first time a session is launched, or whenever the server version of the ActiveX component changes to a newer version. The ActiveX client running inside Internet Explorer makes a direct 5250 or TN5250E connection to the IBM AS/400 (iSeries).

TN5250 Emulation Host Sessions
PASSPORT supports 5250 display and TN5250E AS/400 printing. Up to 26 sessions can be active at one time on one workstation. New sessions can be easily created, opened and saved. A layout of multiple sessions can be saved as a desktop icon. When this icon is activated, multiple 5250 emulator sessions are started at one time. A menu security feature allows an administrator to decide what features are allowed and which are not.
AS/400 Printing Sessions
PASSPORT provides IBM AS/400 IBM-3812-1 host printer emulation. The printer emulation is similar to the SNA Character Sting (SCS) host printing that provides newer more advanced printing functions such as transparent printing. Transparent printing allows the AS/400 iSeries application to send character codes directly to the printer without any code page translation.
The TN5250E printer session provides many configuration options including the font, number of rows and columns on the page, printer margins, transparent printing, printer initialization and closing character strings, modification of host code page translation tables, as well as many other features.
