Issue

I have remote users with slow connections and would like to minimize the size of the ActiveX control that is downloaded to the workstation. Is this possible?

Solution

The PASSPORT Web to Host® ActiveX CAB file that is downloaded from the web server to the client desktop is approximately 2.7MB in size. PASSPORT ships with a "Lite" version of the ActiveX control that is approximately half the size of the standard version.

However, the lite version is limited in functionality and care must be used to configure users and sessions correctly.

What is included in the 3270 Lite Version:
 

• TN3270E connection to an IBM zSeries mainframe host computer 

• SSL and non-SSL connections 

• Host printer sessions 

• All File, Edit, View, Options, Transfer commands 

• Keyboard customization 

• APA Host Graphics 

What is not included in the 3270 Lite Version:
 

• TN5250 connection to IBM iSeries (AS/400) host systems 

• VT52, VT100, VT220 connection to Unix host systems 

• PASSPORT terminal raster font 

• PASSPORT thin terminal raster font 

• HLLAPI 

• Macros 

How to activate the 3270 Lite version of the ActiveX control:
 

1. Copy Passweblite.cab to Passweb.cab. These files are in the \Program Files\PASSPORT eClient Admin\Eclient directory on the server you installed PASSPORT Web to Host.
2. Configure only 3270 session profiles.
3. Configure attribute profiles that use the PASSPORT true type terminal font. Then assign this attribute profile to all of your 3270 session profiles.
4. Configure users and/or groups with security that disables the Macro®Run, Macro®Record and Macro menu commands.

• If you want to switch back to the full ActiveX control later, the previously installed PASSPORT ActiveX object must be deleted on each client so the new full ActiveX control will download. Follow the steps below to remove the ActiveX control from the Windows Downloaded Program Files folder:

1. 1. Start Internet Explorer.
   2. Choose the Tools®Internet Options menu command.
   3. Select the Settings button from the Temporary Internet Files section.
   4. Select the View Objects button to display the Downloaded Program Files folder.
   5. Right-click the PASSPORT Document and choose Remove from the pop-up menu.
