Title

TN3270 Attention Key Problem with Super Session

Product

PASSPORT PC to Host, PASSPORT Web to Host

Emulation Types

TN3270

Issue

The TN3270 Attention key is not working properly. When the Attention key is pressed, Super Session normally switches from one session to another on the mainframe. Instead, PASSPORT simply displays an X SYSTEM on the OIA line and does not switch to another session.

The 3270 Attention host key is mapped to the ESC key when using the PASSPORT keyboard map. This is a problem that occurs with older TN3270E servers and we suggest upgrading to a more recent version.

Solution

This problem usually occurs when you are using an IBM mainframe TCP/IP product in conjunction with Super Session. Because mainframe TCP/IP and Super Session communicate very closely with VTAM on the host, there are conflicts with the 3270 Attention key. This is a mainframe problem that may be resolved with the IBM TCP/IP TN3270E mainframe products.

As an alternative, the problem can be resolved with the following PASSPORT macro. This macro can be assigned to the ESC key used in PASSPORT. This macro is called Ssattn.zmc and is provided in PASSPORT.

Sub ZMain()

Wait (1)

SendHostKeys ("\m"<ENTER>)

End Sub

More Information

  1. PASSPORT must have TN3270E Support enabled for this to work.
