Toggle Between APL and Standard Keyboard

Product

PASSPORT PC to Host, PASSPORT Web to Host

Emulation Types

TN3270

Issue

I have successfully configured PASSPORT to use the APL character and keyboard support as outlined in the documentation. However, I need to know how I can easily switch between a standard custom keyboard map and the APL keyboard map.

Solution

For PASSPORT PC to Host:

Although PASSPORT does not have an APL on/off host key, you may follow the steps below to simulate this:

  1. Start a PASSPORT PC to Host session.
  2. Choose the Options®Keyboard menu command.
  3. Make sure the Custom radio button is selected and APL.zkb is listed as the current Custom Keyboard Map:

  4. Choose the Customize... button.
  5. Highlight the key that will be used to toggle between keyboard maps.
  6. Choose the appropriate Normal, Shift, Ctrl, etc. radio button, making sure not to use a key combination that is already in use.
  7. Choose the Edit button.
  8. Select the Miscellaneous category.
  9. Highlight Apply Setting-Keyboard then browse for the custom keyboard map that you will toggle to:

  10. Click OK twice.
  11. Click Save to save your settings to the APL keyboard map.
  12. Click Browse then locate the keyboard map from step 9 above.
  13. Click Customize.
  14. Repeat steps 5-9 and choose the APL.zkb during step 9.
  15. Click OK twice.
  16. Click Save to save your settings to the keyboard map.
  17. Click OK to return to the session.

For PASSPORT Web to Host Client:

Instructions are the same as those for PASSPORT PC to Host.
