Title

Connection Closed by Host

Product

PASSPORT PC to Host, PASSPORT Web to Host

Emulation Types

TN3270, TN5250, VT, SCO ANSI, Wyse 60

Issue

When attempting to connect to the host, a "Connection closed by host, reconnecting in 1 sec..." message is displayed on the status bar and a connection cannot be made. What would cause this and how can it be resolved?

Solution

Some mainframe hosts are configured so that they require a specific Resource Name (LU Name) when a connection is attempted. In this case, if Generic is selected or an invalid Resource Name is entered, the connection will be refused. Choose the Communication®Connection Log menu command to display additional information, which should help determine why the connection is being closed by the host. Follow the steps below to configure your session to use a specific resource name:

For PASSPORT PC to Host:

  1. Start the PASSPORT session.
  2. Choose the Communication®Disconnect menu command.
  3. Choose the Communication®Setup menu command.
  4. Make sure TN3270E Support is enabled.
  5. Select the Specific radio button.
  6. Enter the appropriate Resource Name (get this from your system administrator).
  7. Click Connect.

For PASSPORT Web to Host Administrator:

  1. Start the PASSPORT Web to Host Administrator program.
  2. Open the appropriate TN3270 Display session.
  3. Make sure TN3270E Support is enabled.
  4. Select the Specific radio button.
  5. Enter the appropriate Resource Name (get this from your system administrator).
  6. Click OK to save or Connect to test.
