How do I configure PASSPORT to use Keep Alive?
Keep Alive is an optional feature available in PASSPORT. With this option enabled, PASSPORT will send a periodic timing signal to the gateway or mainframe to ensure that the connection is not idle long enough to be terminated. This feature can also be used to keep an internet connection "alive".
From the Administrator:
When using a dial-in connection with an internet service provider (ISP), you may be disconnected after a period of idle time, even though the Enable Keep Alive feature is selected. To minimize the chances of this occurring, you can change the gateway port number to something other than 23 (the default telnet port) in the PASSPORT configuration.
Prior to version 2007, the Keep Alive setting can be found on the Communication®Setup®Miscellaneous Tab
Enabling the keep alive setting will resolve any timeout issues due to inactivity with the host
