Title

Exception Client/server version mismatch Error

Product

PASSPORT Web to Host

Emulation Types

TN3270, TN5250, VT, SCO ANSI, Wyse 60

Issue

I get the following "ExceptionClient/server version mismatch. The server version is 2004. The client version must also be 2004. Please contact your system administrator to help resolve the problem." error message when trying to start a PASSPORT Web to Host client session. What is the cause of this and how can I resolve it?

Solution

This message indicates that the currently downloaded ActiveX Client application on your workstation is older than the version of PASSPORT Web to Host that is installed on the server you are trying to access. This is usually caused when a shortcut or Internet Explorer Favorite is pointed to the PASSPORT Web to Host Active Document. By pointing directly to the Ecomes.zwh file on the server, the version checking is bypassed, thus causing a mismatch. To correct this situation, point the shortcut or favorite to Ecomes.asp, rather than Ecomes.zwh. This will cause the new version of the PASSPORT Web to Host Client application to download.

For Windows XP with SP2 installed, it is possible that the option "Automatic Prompting for ActiveX Controls" is disabled, which may cause PASSPORT not to download the new version of the ActiveX Client from the server. To correct this, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and click Tools®Internet Options from the menu.
  2. Select the Security tab and click on the appropriate zone that you are working with.
  3. Click on the Custom Level button and enable the Automatic Prompting for ActiveX Controls option.
  4. Repeat step 3 for any other zones that are used to access PASSPORT Web to Host.
  5. Click OK to save the settings.
