Title

Runtime Error On Passman.exe

Product

PASSPORT Web to Host

Emulation Types

TN3270, TN5250, VT, SCO ANSI, Wyse 60

Issue

When trying to access the PASSPORT Web to Host Administrator program, I get the following "Runtime Error!  Program: C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLO~1\passman.exe abnormal program termination" error message (see below). How can this be resolved?

Solution

This error typically occurs on a web server that is using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) for encryption. This happens due to mismatching information on the self-signed certificate used on the PASSPORT Web to Host server. Two warnings on the certificate that may cause this error are:

  1. Invalid certificate date (see Security Alert below).
  2. The common name used in the certificate does not match the URL name used to access the PASSPORT Web to Host site (see Security Alert below).

Use one of the following methods to correct this problem:

  1. Update your certificate to use a valid date.
  2. Make sure the URL used to access the PASSPORT Web to Host site has the same (common) name that was used when the certificate was created.
  3. Upgrade to PASSPORT Web to Host version 2002-823 or higher. Warning messages from a self-signed certificate are acceptable with these later versions.
