Issue

How do I configure FTPS for secure file transfer using SSL?

Solution

FTPS provides a secure file transfer through the use of the SSL layer, found below the standard FTP protocol, and encrypts the control and/or data channels. PASSPORT FTP implements FTPS according to IETF RFC 4217 Securing FTP with TLS. PASSPORT connects to a standard FTP server port 21 and begins an unencrypted FTP session as it normally would, then requests that SSL security be used through the AUTH TLS command and performs the necessary SSL handshaking.

From PASSPORT PC to Host and PASSPORT Web to Host:

  1. Select Transfer from the Options menu:

  2. Verify that FTP is selected as the File Transfer Method.
  3. Select FTP Server:

  4. Select FTP over SSL as the server type.
  5. Enter the necessary configuration information on the Host Settings tab.
  6. Select the SSL tab:

  7. Configure as desired.

For PASSPORT FTP Client:

  1. If you are connected to a session, disconnect from the session by selecting Disconnect from the Communication menu.
  2. Select Setup from the Communication menu.
  3. Add a new profile by selecting Add.
  4. Enter a name for your new profile.
  5. Select FTP over SSL as the server type.
  6. Enter the necessary configuration information.
  7. Select the SSL tab:

  8. Configure as desired.
