Title

Internet Explorer Kiosk Mode with Web to Host

Product

PASSPORT Web to Host

Emulation Types

TN3270, TN5250, VT, SCO ANSI, Wyse 60

Issue

Is it possible to utilize the Kiosk Mode (full screen) of Internet Explorer with a PASSPORT Web to Host session? Currently, when we press the F11 key from a session to toggle Kiosk Mode on, nothing happens.

Solution

Because the PASSPORT Web to Host menu is merged with the IE menu, some of the shortcut keys are not available, such as F11 for enabling/disabling Kiosk Mode. However, if you wish to start a PASSPORT Web to Host session in Kiosk Mode, you will need to start the IE executable using the -k command line switch (Kiosk Mode) then pass the Web to Host session as a parameter.  For example:

iexplore.exe -k "http://MyServer/pec/Ecomes.asp?sessionprofile=3270dsp/Sessions/zephyr"

Note: if you plan to use this method, make sure you add a button to the Toolbar, modify an existing Button Bar button or map a keystroke to the Keyboard to Exit the application.  Otherwise, the only way you will be able to close the session is from Task Manager or by pressing the Windows key, right-click the icon on the Taskbar and Close.
