Title
TCP Ports Required for External Users
Product
PASSPORT WEB TO HOST
Emulation Types
TN3270, TN5250, VT, SCO ANSI, Wyse 60
Issue
My host is sitting behind a firewall.
How can I allow my remote user(s) access to the host? What
TCP ports are needed to be open on the firewall?
Solution
Before configuring your network to allow outside
users to use WEB TO HOST to connect to your host, it is recommended that
you go over the WEB TO HOST architecture technical notes from the link
below:
http://www.zephyrcorp.com/web-terminal-emulator/architecture.htm
Follow the steps below to ensure that you
will successfully setup a connection for your remote user(s):
- Make sure the HTTP or HTTPS port is opened on your firewall.
This port needs to be pointing to your WEB TO HOST server. The
default port number for HTTP is 80 and for HTTPS is 443.
- Make sure the Telnet or Telnet with SSL port is opened
on your firewall. This port needs to be pointing to your host
system. The default port number for Telnet is 23 and for Telnet
with SSL is 992.
- If you're using SSH, make sure this port is opened on
your firewall and pointing to your host system. The default
port number for SSH is 22.
- If you're using FTP or FTPS, make sure this port is opened
on your firewall and pointing to your FTP server. The default
port number for FTP is 21.
- If you're using SFTP, make sure this port is opened on
your firewall and pointing to your FTP server. The default port
number for SFTP is 22.
- On the WEB TO HOST Administrator program, configure a
separate PASSPORT session for remote users. This session's IP
Host Name will be the IP address of your firewall external interface
or comparable. If you're using FTP/FTPS or SFTP, configure a
separate session for this pointing to your firewall external interface
as well.
