Title

Set Up Shortcut to Point to ASP Page Rather Than ZWH

Product

PASSPORT Web to Host

Emulation Types

TN3270, TN5250, VT, SCO ANSI, Wyse 60

Issue

When a PASSPORT Web to Host session is started the URL that appears in the Internet Explorer address bar points to the Ecomes.zwh document with some parameters passed to it. Why is it not a good idea to save this URL as an Internet Explorer Favorite or create a desktop shortcut?

Solution

Any links or shortcuts that are created to start a PASSPORT Web to Host session should point to the ASP file and not the ZWH file that is opened by the ASP. For example, the end result of starting a session is http://server/pec/Ecomes.zwh?sessionprofile=3270dsp/Sessions/profilename. If this URL is saved as an Internet Explorer Favorite or a desktop shortcut is created pointing to this location, a first time user will not download the ActiveX client and will get an error. Also, if a new version of PASSPORT Web to Host is installed on the server, existing users will not download the new version. By simply modifying the URL to point to Ecomes.asp rather than Ecomes.zwh, this can be avoided. The ASP file does a version check before opening the ZWH configuration file. In summary, any shortcuts or favorites should point to a URL similar to the following:

http://server/pec/Ecomes.asp?sessionprofile=3270dsp/Sessions/profilename
