PASSPORT Host Integration Objects General FAQ

What are the PASSPORT Host Integration Objects?

PASSPORT Host Integration Objects (HIO) provide a core set of classes, methods, properties and events that allow software developers using Microsoft development tools and platforms to programmatically access applications running on IBM zSeries (S/390 mainframe) and IBM iSeries (AS/400 midrange) servers.

The Objects are used to develop client or server-based ActiveX or .NET legacy integration applications that utilize TN3270 and TN5250 host connections. PASSPORT HIO is derived from the IETF OHIO specification and includes documentation on how to write applications, sample applications and sample source code in Visual Basic, VB Script, C++ and C# .NET.

What is OHIO?

OHIO, Open Host Interface Objects, provides a standardized advanced programming interface to host systems. OHIO is a proposed IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) Internet-Draft and is designed to be an object-oriented replacement for HLLAPI.
