Using Windows 7 as Platform for 3270 Legacy Integration
Windows 7 is often referred to as the best desktop operating system in Microsoft's 35 year history. As a result, we are seeing many large corporations planning a total or partial upgrade to Windows 7.
All PASSPORT products that run on the Windows 7 desktop are certified as compatible with Windows 7, including the PASSPORT Host Integration Objects (using the PASSPORT Terminal Control Object).
Which Platform? Server or Desktop?
When looking at legacy application integration projects, one of the first considerations is where to base the developed solution, on a server or at the desktop?
PASSPORT HIO runs on both, and we find the main reason that people will select the desktop over the server is if they also require a full terminal emulator session on the client. When they do, Zephyr offers the use of the PASSPORT HIO Terminal Control Object to extend the 3270 screen and keyboard to the end user.
PASSPORT Host Integration Objects Overview
PASSPORT HIO is a programmatic legacy integration solution that enables object-oriented access to IBM 3270 and 5250 host applications from customer-written applications using .NET or ActiveX. Once developed, PASSPORT HIO applications can be deployed from either a Microsoft Windows Server or desktop.
PASSPORT HIO offers a fast, low-cost, low risk approach to reusing valuable business processes that have been adapted and perfected over many years. It also eliminates the need for terminal emulation.
For a flying start to your legacy integration project we recommend that you download a free trial version of PASSPORT HIO.
