PASSPORT Web to Host® Terminal Emulator HLLAPI and PowerBuilder®

PASSPORT provides high quality, reliable terminal emulation from Windows desktops. PASSPORT emulation is extremely cost effective. Zephyr provides a subscription based licensing program that can reduce your acquisition cost and maintenance cost significantly.

As one of the market's very first IP-based connectivity solutions, the mature, feature-rich package is an ideal alternative to older desktop-based emulators, including Attachmate® EXTRA!® or Reflection®, IBM Personal Communications or NetManage® Rumba®.

When the PASSPORT Web to Host® terminal emulator ActiveX applet is downloaded to a client workstation, the following DLL's are also downloaded to the Windows system folder:

  • PASSHLL.DLL (32-bit HLLAPI)

On a Windows workstation these files are downloaded to the WINNT\System32\ folder. The HLLAPI application should be written to call the appropriate HLLAPI DLL to interface with the PASSPORT terminal emulator.

Web to Host HLLAPI Extensions for Powerbuilder®

The following three HLLAPI functions have been added as extensions to Zephyr's HLLAPI implementation. These functions provide compatibility with Wall Data's® "RUMBA® Tools for PowerBuilder®":

Run Profile
This function launches the specified 3270, 5250, VT100, VT220, VT420, SCO ANSI and Wyse 60 session profile from your Windows HLLAPI application.

Run Connect
This function launches the specified 3270, 5250, VT100, VT220, VT420, SCO ANSI and Wyse 60 session profile and connects to the specified presentation space from your Windows HLLAPI application.

Close Disconnect
This function disconnects the specified 3270, 5250, VT100, VT220, VT420, SCO ANSI and Wyse 60 Host session and closes the application from your Windows HLLAPI session.

Without these extensions, the 3270, 5250, VT100, VT220, VT420, SCO ANSI and Wyse 60 session would have to be started manually before starting the HLLAPI application. When these functions are utilized with PowerBuilder applications, the HLLAPI application can be started without manually starting the 3270, 5250, VT100, VT220, VT420, SCO ANSI and Wyse 60 terminal emulator.

What is Powerbuilder?

PowerBuilder is an application development environment offered by Sybase, Inc. For more information, please visit this page on the Sybase website.

Any PowerBuilder® application that uses a HLLAPI connection to an IBM® mainframe can now be used with PASSPORT Web to Host®.

Migrating PC to Host HLLAPI Applications to Web to Host

Migrating an existing PC to Host HLLAPI application requires making minor changes to the code. Any calls to HLLAPI DLL's within a PC to Host HLLAPI application should be modified to call the PASSHLL.DLL (32-bit) located in the Windows System folder.

Quicktrial or Download Options

There are two ways to evaluate the PASSPORT Web to Host® terminal emulator: either download a copy of the software or do a Quicktrial of the PASSPORT Web to Host® application. With Quicktrial, there is no server installation, you simply download the client and run the application from our web server. This is a fast and easy way to look at the PASSPORT Web to Host® software. For those that want to install the PASSPORT Web to Host® software on their own web server, you can download the fully functional 3270, 5250, SCO ANSI, VT100/VT220/VT420 and Wyse 60 emulator trial and complete a full evaluation.
