Error If You Are Viewing This File in Your Browser...
PASSPORT Web to Host
TN3270, TN5250, VT, SCO ANSI, Wyse 60
When I start a Web to Host session, I get the following text in the browser window instead of a host session:
If you are viewing this file in your browser, there is a problem with your workstation or network preventing the download and/or execution of ActiveX components. The troubleshooting list below can be used to determine what the problem may be and help resolve the issue:
Check Internet Explorer security setting from Tools®Internet Options®Security tab.
If using non-customized security level it must be set to medium or lower.
If using a customized security level the following must be enabled or set to prompt:
Download signed ActiveX controls
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting
Check with the site administrator to see if a firewall could be preventing the ActiveX component from downloading from the Web to Host server.
If your operating system is Windows NT 4.0 (Workstation or Server), Windows 2000
(Professional, Server or Advanced Server), or Windows XP (Home or Professional), you may need to have your network administrator add your domain account to one of the following local groups:
Administrators
Power Users
Check with site administrator to see what version of Internet Information Server (IIS) is running on the Web to Host server. Web to Host supports version 4.0 and higher. Older versions of IIS did not support ActiveX and therefore cannot handle the downloading of the Web to Host ActiveX control.
[Server Property]
Server_Object=/pecadmin/Ecomes.asp
Code=XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
KeepAliveTime=30
As the above text suggests there are several reasons why this may occur, although Internet Explorer security settings are the most common cause. Another common scenario is where users are directed to a shortcut or URL which points directly to the PASSPORT Web to Host Active Document (Ecomes.zwh). If all the items in the above checklist have been checked and this problem still occurs then this is most likely the cause. If users are starting a session by clicking on a link or shortcut make sure Ecomes.zwh is changed to Ecomes.asp to prevent this issue. The ASP page contains code, which initiates the ActiveX client download and checks the Web to Host version.
Below is an example of how to correctly start a PASSPORT Web to Host session from a URL:
