Title

Non printable data gets printed when printing to a file

Product

PASSPORT PC to Host, PASSPORT Web to Host

Emulation Types

Issue

When outputting a print job to a file from my printer session, I am getting non printable characters in the output file.  How can I correct this?

Solution

A local Windows printer should be installed on the workstation, where the port is configured as FILE. "Generic/Text" should be used as the print driver to avoid printing non printable characters.  Follow the steps below to do this on a Windows XP workstation:

  1. Go to Control Panel®Printers and Faxes
  2. Click on Add a Printer and follow the wizard to add a LOCAL printer.
  3. Select FILE: (Print to File) for the printer port.
  4. Select Generic/Text for the printer driver.
  5. Enter a name for the newly created printer.
