Overwritten Files During Installation

Emulation Types

Issue

During the installation process, are any shared system files (*.DLL) overwritten?  Do I have the option to not overwrite a file?

Solution

Since PASSPORT is developed using the very latest in Microsoft development tools, this usually means the most current product of a shared system file is used.

During the installation process, if the setup program encounters an older version of a shared system file, it will automatically overwrite the file with no warning.  Shared system files are upward compatible.  Installing a newer version of the file should not affect programs that share the same file.

If a newer version of the file exists on the system, setup displays a warning message with an option to skip the file or overwrite it.  If you choose to overwrite the file with an older version, it may cause other applications to become unstable or not run at all.

It is strongly recommended that you do not overwrite a shared system file with an older version of that file.
